As a rookie in the league I don't expect many big assignments in volatile places, but the games that I've been involved with thus far have been nothing less of extraordinary with respects to competition and challenges in various capacities. As an added bonus they've all been highly attended games, making the atmosphere all the more surreal...and it appears that the emotional high for the season may have already come and gone.
Last Thursday I was part of the officiating crew that opened the new Livestrong Stadium, home of MLS' Sporting Kansas City. Approximately 19,000 packed the stadium for the event, and let's just say that emotions were high. Sporting KC hadn't played a home game all season, and their record displayed how disadvantaged one is to the rest of the field when support is at a minimum. All-in-all pretty dreamlike experience that I wouldn't have thought possible a year ago. Awaiting an opportunity with a whistle in the next couple of years, but the experience of holding the sub-board coupled with working alongside quality officials is resulting in personal growth by leaps and bounds. It was all captured on ESPN2. Thanks Andy for the "game face" screenshot.
