Off to Chicago
I'm off to Chicago for a soccer tournament as a guest referee from our region (Region 3), and won't be back until Sunday. While I am looking forward to getting out of this 100 degree heat weather.com informs me that it's a mere 8 degrees cooler up there. Two games a day with some of the top amateur teams in Region 2 in 90+ degree weather is just about as challenging as it gets.
Should be a lot of fun. Have a great weekend!

Charlotte deClouet
Karen and I were introduced to the newest member of the deClouet family today. Jeanne gave birth to Charlotte last night after laboring for 15+ hours. I can't even phathom such a feat...15 hours! Both are doing well, and John has never looked happier.

We happened to visit right around the time the hospitalist was visiting. I was holding Charlotte, and he asked, "Are you the father?" After denieing that question it kind of got me thinking about kids, and Karen is hating that! She looks like such the mother in this picture though?
They should make iPhones with flashes.

Presenting the Accord!
As I'm sure everyone is aware, it's been a little warm around Lafayette with the temperature flirting with the 100s on a daily basis. Karen noticed that part of the leather in our car is cracking as a result of the sunlight beaming on that one spot, and in an attempt to prevent further cracking and to keep the inside of the car cool, has blanketed it with one of our sheets during the day.
Every time I get in I feel like I'm unveiling a new car to the public, and pull the sheet as if I were a showman. A couple of walkers have caught me in the act, but so far no questions asked.

The DeClouet Family
We grew up hearing it year after year, and were made to believe it. "It's an honor to be a deClouet." If there was ever any doubt one could just ask Uncle Mike, Aunt Dawn, or Grandpa (if you had patience) and confirmation was given on the history of the DeClouets, a proud family whose lineage can be traced back as far as 1700 when Jean Martin de Clouet de Pietre was born in Cambrai, France.

Leave it to my cousin John to provide us with evidence of such claims. A work in progress on the Descendants of Jean Martin de Clouet de Pietre can be found at http://www.declouet.expressionsunlimitedinc.com/ . In addition to our geneology it also contains a list of DeClouet letters dating from 1811-1917 The originals can be found in ULL's library, which, along with LSU's, holds a vast amount of history on the DeClouet family that will soon be available at our fingertips.
I believe John has sent out a mass email (No, you didn't misread. The guy who hates mass emails has sent one out, and he expects everyone to read it.) to all in an attempt to gain assistance in his ongoing project. It benefits all who are interested, so please contribute.
Thanks again John.

Not Drowning
Swimming (not drowning) has been a new aerobic activity that I have decided to get involved with. We may be able to call it anaerobic since I forget to breathe just about all the time, but I'm working on that. I have been lucky enough to recruit the services of a swim coach (my friend Carlee) at a reasonable rate, but I don't think it'll last long as I may be more than she's bargained for.
Today was a great workout. Finally starting to make some progress until Karen decides to show me up. Her form is rediculously superior to mine...not to mention she makes it look effortless. I am completely out of my element (like a minow in a pool of sharks).
Coach Carlee after a busy workout, and a busy day in which she celebrated the gaining of a year.
Happy Birthday!
The ultimate goal of my new found training is to be able to compete in the CajunMan Triathalon on Setpember 13 ( 0.5 mile swim/20 mile bike/3.1 mile run). The biking and running aren't nearly as intimidating as the half-mile swim. Hopefully training three to four days per week in the pool will help. I honestly think I'm biting off more than I can chew here, but we'll see what coach says in the morning. Anyone care to join...6:00 at Reds.

10 days in...
...and Maggie's still with us. She seems to be adapting well to her new "calm" schedule of not roaming free, but occasionally I'll see that sparkle in her eyes when LG is ready to walk her...possible freedom. Only 110 days left.

Fence Completed
Project started January 11th with Big Mark at the helm, and ended June 3rd with myself leading the way. I can only say that I'm feeling a great deal of satisfaction right now despite the fact that it took nearly five months to complete a 80 foot fence.

An afternoon on the water
After a long weekend of officiating soccer (not to mention saving a fellow official from a severe allergic reaction) Karen and I joined some friends at 3 Mile Lake for an afternoon on the water and some serious BBQ burgers. Definitely a nice break...even if it was only for an afternoon.
My favorite picture of the day, by far. I don't spend nearly enough time with my sister, and to do so this past Sunday was definitely a treat.
Nick determined to get us home on time, and Jordan being a supportive friend.
I don't think they're clothed!
