Cajun Cup 2008

Disappointing is the best word to describe my run on Saturday as I participated in the Cajun Cup. Posting a time of 45:03, I finished in 85th place. My goal was 43 minutes as I have concentrated my training to involve my wife. On another disappointing note, she couldn't partake in the festivities as she fell victim to the dreaded cold. Luckily enough, that illness turned our prepared first-time runner into our photographer.

The winner, Kevin Castille, appropriately wears number 1. 30:11 was his time as he averaged 4:52/mile...at 36 years of age. Incredible!

This guy in front of me outpaced me in the last 300 yards. Not proud about that.

My run started as it always does, 5:55 first mile followed by 6:50 second mile...and then cramping set in...and then 70+ runners passed me up. Right before mile marker 5 a man (coughing up a lung) pulls up next to me and says, "How much longer is this ____!" As I look over I notice the person is Paige's (Matthew's girlfriend) dad, and he kept moving along past me. After gathering my composure I immediately caught up with him, and he paced me the rest of the way. Had it not been for him I might have run a 50:00+ race...seriously.

Matthew finishing right behind big brother...as far as the order in which deClouet's finished goes. I told him prior to the race that he shouldn't wear that long-sleeve yellow shirt, and had offered him one of my running ones. He declined saying that it was too cold. Matthew, you could have shaved off 30 seconds. Listen to older brother!

Amy in her first post childbirth race, and might I say not bad form. You can check out her post on the race here. Pretty good strory lines.

I'm most proud of my sister Ellen, who ran the entire way without stopping. While this may not seem like much of a feat consider that she only started training five days prior to the race. My last memory of her running any serious distance involved me taking a car to pick her up after I had finished.

John had to use all of his energy to catch up with Jeanne, but it appears she outpaced him in the end...just joking. John finished thrid out of the deClouets, beating Mike in their side-bet. Check out Amy's post for more on that.

Ok...Kevin Castille is not human! You should be so proud of yourself! 45 minutes is an awesome time! Not to mention that you just came off of a 12 work shift! You did great:)

Is that bald guy with the "sexy" shirt Paige's dad?! He cracked me up! I kept running into him and that shirt was classic!

Mark, I am second guessing the half marathon. I have to test out some longer runs before I sign up. Are you running in the 5k at Case Ole on nov.22?

haha Amy that was not my daddy that had on the "sexy" shirt. At least I seriouslly hope that was not him. He is not bald, but balding he is. He would be so mad at me if he knows I said that.

Mark it is very wierd that I am a offspring of my father because I hate, HATE to run!!! Every year he keeps getting a better time! And about him coughing up a lung... He is struggling to quit smoking cigars!! I am glad the deClouet clan got to meet him though!

Yes Karen, thanks for the pics, but you're going to participate in the 5K in two weeks.

Yeah Mike, not going to do the half-marathon because it's too soon, but I did start training for one. It's a nine week guide that can be found here:

Paige, I thought that was him in the sexy shirt. Who was I talking to the whole time? JJ, George is a really cool guy.
